
Flashes Fall in Back-and-Forth Fifth Set

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State volleyball team was unable to capitalize on seven match point chances in the fifth set and fell to Miami, 3-2 (25-15, 25-20, 22-25, 21-25, 20-22), Friday night at the M.A.C. Center.
The Golden Flashes (10-18, 5-11 MAC) posted a .302 team hitting percentage in the contest, which is 22 points higher than any other match against a Mid-American Conference opponent this season. Redshirt senior Alex Haffner totaled 54 assists on the night and found four teammates for nine or more kills each.
Junior Taylor Heberle led the way with a match-high 21 kills. Senior Melissa Kolurbasi added 14 kills. Senior Danie Tyson and redshirt junior Jacqlyn Caspers were productive in the middle, posting 10 kills and nine kills, respectively. Caspers added a match-high six blocks.
The floor defense was led by senior Erin Gardner, who tallied 17 digs. Junior Savannah Matthews added 11 digs, and freshman Kiersten Kraus was right behind with 10.
Kent State will seek a series split with Miami on Saturday, as the teams are scheduled to meet inside the M.A.C. Center at 4 p.m.
