(KENT, Ohio) - The Kent State gymnastics team is set to begin the 2021-22 season Sunday, when it holds its annual blue-gold scrimmage at 1 p.m. at the M.A.C. Center. There will be an autograph signing of the gymnasts after the scrimmage as well. Admission is free for both the scrimmage and signing.
Kent State Overview
Returning for the Flashes is junior Rachel DeCavitch, who was named Second Team All-MAC a year ago. DeCavitch, the 2020 MAC Freshman of the Year, was dominant on bars all season, earning her first appearance on an All-MAC team. She posted a 9.875 NQS on bars, which ranks third in the MAC. She set a career-high 9.900 on the event and won three individual bars titles.
This year's Blue team will feature DeCavitch, freshman Alyssa Guns, senior Kendra Lindway, freshman Cheyenne Pratola, senior Maddie Iannuzzo, senior Sam Henry, freshman Brynne Tsipis, senior Cami Klein, junior Karlie Franz, junior Jackie Harker, and junior Taylor Wentland. Flashback to Last Year
Kent State looks to follow up on a season a year ago in which they went 5-7 and had a 2-4 MAC dual record. Those records don't tell the whole story though, as the Flashes were awarded a spot in the Morgantown Regional at the end of the season and finished the year with an NQS of 390.281, Regional of 194.300, team NQS of 195.981, average of 195.252, and high of 196.375.
Up Next
Kent State will have over a month to prepare for its first regular season meet, the Kent State Tri-Meet, which will take place Sunday, Jan. 16 at 1 p.m. in the M.A.C. Center against Illinois and Northern Illinois.
