
Flashes in Second After Opening Round in Alabama

MOBILE, Ala.- The Kent State men's golf team stands in second place on day one of the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course. The Flashes posted a 9-under 279 score in the first round.
Will Kurtz led KSU in the opening round after he carded a 68 (-4) score. Kurtz's bogey free round and four birdies has him sitting tied for fourth.
Josh Gilkison and Cade Breitenstine are both tied for sixth after firing a 69 (-3) scores. Gilkison also shot a bogey free round, birdied a hole, and eagled on the par-5 No. 16 hole. Breitenstine was also flawless and ended the day with three birdies and zero bogeys.
Julien Paltrinieri and Chris Vandette rounded out the Flashes' lineup with 73 (+1) scores. The duo sit tied for 34th. Luca Civello, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 42nd after carding a 74 (+2).
The Flashes trail leader Illinois by 5 strokes headed into the second round. Kent State's 68 total pars lead the tournament. Kent State will tee off tomorrow morning at 8:40 a.m. and will be paired with tournament leader Illinois, and Louisville.
