
Wickey Captures Third Weight Throw Title Friday at MAC Indoor Championships

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Senior Jake Wickey earned a first-place finish in the weight throw on Friday at the MAC Indoor Championships held in the Jack Skoog Indoor Track in Mount Pleasant. Wickey set a new personal record with a throw of 73'-8.75" and received 10 points for the Golden Flashes. He also moved into fifth place in nation.
Freshman Kristian Kneffler and senior Lukas Van Der Watt placed second and third in the pole vault earning 8 points and 6 points, respectively. Both Kneffler and Van Der Watt cleared a height of 16'-4", but Kneffler cleared it on one less try. Jacob Sommers also scored for Kent State securing fifth place (15'-0.25") and receiving 2 points.
Freshman Alexander Shields and senior Jacob Mally finished Friday in second and fifth place in the heptathlon. Shields is currently four points out of first place with a total of 3020, while Mally is sixty-one points back of fourth place (2794). The duo placed top-5 in all of their heptathlon events with Shields winning both the 60-meter dash (7.12) and the long jump (22'-10.75").
The Kent State distance medley relay team, consisting of Joshua Allen, Zavien Parker, Justin Prack and Drew Johnson earned four more points for the Flashes, coming in fourth place with a time of 10:07.18.
Sophomore Del'Mario Hairston placed sixth in the long jump (22'-2.5"), receiving one point.
The Golden Flashes had five other athletes qualify for the finals in their respective events. Junior Asa Hodrick, freshman Dejon Manning and sophomore Jaheim Jones all secured their place in the 200-meter dash finals finishing in 21.85, 22.07, and 22.48, respectively. Sophomores Trey Double and Quintin Cooks made the 800-meter finals with times of 1:57.48 and 1:57.72.
The Flashes currently sit in third place overall with 31 points.
Competition resumes tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. with the heptathlon 60-meter hurdles.
