Golden Flashes Drop Second Straight to Start Season

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State women's lacrosse team (0-2) dropped its second consecutive home game to Marquette (2-2) on Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early lead and held strong throughout, limiting Kent State to only eight goals. Marquette is averaging just 7.66 goals per game over their last three contests.
All five Golden Flashes who found the back of the net on Sunday also scored in the season opener, led by Madison Rapier with three goals. The junior midfielder connected on both of her free position shots. Rapier recorded her third straight multi-goal game dating back to the 2020 season.
Megan Kozar netted two for the Flashes, while Kenzie Sklar, Abby Jones and Meghan Cawood each scored one goal.
Four Golden Eagles scored hat tricks on the day with Leigh Steiner leading the charge with four. Both Caroline Steller and Megan Menzuber recorded three goals and three assists. Sophia Leva recorded her second straight victory in goal for Marquette, saving five shots and allowing just three goals in 32 minutes.
Next Up
Kent State continues its three-game homestand on Wednesday, March 3, against Robert Morris. The Golden Flashes will then travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats on Sunday, March 7, on the field where the team played its first game in program history just two years ago.
