
Flashes, McGinty Take Clemson Invitational

SUNSET, S.C.- Caley McGinty continued her historic play by notching a career-low in 54-hole tournament score and take individual honors as she led the Kent State women's golf team to a win at the Clemson Invitational on Sunday at The Reserve Golf Course.
The Flashes finished the weekend with a 12-under 852 score for their second tournament win of the season. Virginia Tech finished in second place at 862 (-2), while Maryland took third at 865 (+1).
McGinty sank seven birdies on Sunday on her way to a 5-under 67, finishing the tournament with a 10-under 206, the fifth-lowest 54-hole tournament score in program history. Her score of 66 in the opening round was a career-low and set a course record. She led the tournament with 17 total birdies and led on par-5 holes (-6).
Kory Nielsen finished the final round with a career-low 68 (-4) after carding five birdies and finished tied for fifth with a career-r low 54-hole total of 213 (-3).
Chloe Salort finished tied for ninth with a 215 (-1) after finishing the final round with a 70 (-2) score with four birdies.
Marissa Kirkwood posted a 71 (-1) score in the third round and finished the tournament tied for 33rd at 221 (+5). Mayka Hoogeboom finished tied for 36th 222 (+6) after finishing the third round with a 75 (+3) score.
As a team, Kent State led the tournament with 50 total birdies, and scored the lowest on par-5 holes (-14).
The Flashes return to action on April 17-18 as they travel to Bloomington, Ind. for the Indiana Invitational.
