CLEVELAND, Ohio – Kent State freshman Katie Wuerstle was named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week following the Flashes hard fought victories over Appalachian State this past weekend, as announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon. Wuerstle makes it two weeks in a row that a Kent State student-athlete has won the award, joining her teammate senior Clara Rodriguez Seto who won it last week.
Wuerstle played a critical role in Kent State's tightly contested 3-2 victory over Appalachian State this past Friday. Trailing by a goal for much of the game, the Golden Flashes needed a spark on the offensive end. Wuerstle created that spark by scoring her fourth and fifth goals of the season. She knotted the score at 2-2 late in the third quarter and then scored again minutes later for what would become the game winning goal with just one second remaining on the clock in the quarter. Wuerstle tallied five shots over the Flashes two victories with four of them being on goal.
Up next, Kent State travels to Oxford, Ohio for a showdown with the Miami RedHawks on Friday, Apr. 2 and Saturday, Apr. 3. Friday's game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. and Saturday's game at 3:30 p.m.
