Central Michigan Takes Game One of Four Game Set

MOUNT PLEASANT, MI- Central Michigan used a six-run third inning to take game one of the four-game set on Friday, winning 10-0 in a game called after the top of the seventh.

The Golden Flashes threatened early on Friday as they got the first two runners on in the first inning, with Ben Carew and Cam Touchette reaching on infield singles. But a pair of flyouts, including a running over the shoulder catch on a deep fly from Nick Elsen, held the Flashes off the scoreboard.

The Chippewas manufactured a run in the first. A two-out single, stolen base and a double pushed across the first run of the game. The Chips did the same in the second, stringing together a pair of singles and a hit batter to make it 2-0.

Luke Albright got out of a jam in the third, working around a pair of singles by getting a pop-up and a fly to left to hold Central off the scoreboard. He'd run into trouble again in the fourth, a pair of singles opened the inning, and a three-run homer broke the game open and put Central up 5-0 . Two more singles followed, knocking Albright from the game. It is the first time this season that Albright didn't go at least five innings and it's the first time he's allowed more than two earned runs and five hits. Peyton Deats relieved Albright and got out of the fourth thanks to a pair of spectacular diving catches from Collin Mathews. Benny Roebuck threw a pair of scoreless innings in relief including two strike outs in a strong relief appearance.

The loss drops Kent State to 13-15 overall and 6-7 in the MAC. Central Michigan improves to 18-10 and 10-3 in conference play. The two teams will meet up again on Saturday for a pair of seven-inning games. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
