
Ten Golden Flashes Earn Qualifying Spots at NCAA East Preliminary Round

INDIANAPOLIS – The Kent State University track and field program has 10 student-athletes who have earned spots to compete at the 2021 NCAA East Preliminary Rounds, the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee announced on Thursday. The preliminary round will be held May 26-29 in Jacksonville, Florida.
For each individual event contested at each of the preliminary sites, the top 48 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event, the top 24 declared relay teams were accepted into the competition.
Three Golden Flashes qualified in multiple events. Gabby Bailey and Grace Tennant will both compete in the women's discus throw and women's shot put, while Asa Hodrick qualified in the men's 100-meter dash and men's 200-meter dash.
Scott Benco (men's javelin throw) and Jake Wickey (men's hammer throw) join Bailey and Tennant to give Kent State six entries in throwing events.
The Flashes' jumps squad earned four qualifying spots. Anthony Milliner (men's triple jump) has qualified for the NCAA East Prelims meet for the third time, while Kristian Kneffler (men's pole vault), Leah Pasqualetti (women's pole vault) and Gavin Schoeneman (men's high jump) all earned entries in their freshman season.
Ruby Greenwood rounds out the qualifiers in the women's 400-meter dash.
The top 12 performers from each preliminary site will advance to the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 9-12 in Eugene, Oregon.
