
Flashes Tied for Fourth After First Round of NCAA Championship

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.- Caley McGinty and Emily Price both fired an even-par 72 on Friday and the No. 16 Kent State women's golf team is tied for fourth at the NCAA Championship after the opening day at the Grayhawk Golf Club.
The Flashes carded a 292 (+4) score on Friday and are tied with Arizona, Duke, Wake Forest in fourth place, while Stanford sits in third at 291 (+3), Oregon second at 290 (+2), and Texas in first at 289 (+1).
Friday's round was the first of three rounds of stroke play in which all 24 teams will participate. The field will be cut to the top-15 teams for a fourth round of stroke play on Monday. The top-eight teams after 72 holes of stroke play will compete in a match-play format for the NCAA Championship beginning on Tuesday.
McGinty and Emily led the Flashes with their 72 (E) score and are tied for fifth. McGinty turned in three red numbers after going 15 holes for par or better, while Price carded three birdies.
Kory Nielsen is tied for 19th after carding a 73 (+1) for the opening round. Nielsen fired back-to-back birdies on the No. 7 and No.8 hole and ended the day with three total.
Chloe Salort fired a 75 (+3) after three birdies and sits tied for 52nd, while Valentina Albertazzi rounded out the lineup with a 76 (+4) score and is tied for 74th.
Kent State begins the second round on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET and will be paired with Texas and Maryland. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
