
High-Powered Cardinals Beat Flashes at M.A.C. Center

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State volleyball team was unable to begin Mid-American Conference play with a weekend sweep, as visiting Ball State earned a 3-0 (14-25, 15-25, 10-25) victory at the M.A.C. Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Flashes (6-8, 1-1 MAC) struggled to get going on offense, totaling 27 kills and hitting at a .113 clip., compared to 45 kills and a .365 hitting percentage by the Cardinals. Defensively, Kent State had its fewest digs (45) and blocks (3) of the season.
Junior Savannah Matthews and senior Danie Tyson paced the Flashes with 11 points each. Matthews had a team-high 10 kills while adding a pair of block assists and nine digs. Tyson posted a .348 hitting percentage with nine kills, two block assists and an ace.
Redshirt senior Alex Haffner registered all 25 of Kent State's assists on the day.
Senior Erin Gardner tallied a match-high 12 digs.
The Flashes will travel to Toledo for a pair of MAC contests next weekend.
