Women’s Basketball Back at the M.A.C. Center Sunday vs. NKU

The Kent State women's basketball team seeks its first win of the 2022-23 season when it hosts Northern Kentucky for a 2 p.m. contest Sunday at the M.A.C. Center.
Ranked No. 20 in the preseason Mid-Major Top 25 poll, the Golden Flashes (0-1) led Florida State by 11 late in the third quarter before struggling to make shots over the final 12 minutes in an 80-71 setback during the season opener Thursday night.
Graduate student Lindsey Thall led Kent State with 19 points and senior Katie Shumate was right behind with 18. Junior Casey Santoro joined them in double-figures and finished with 11 points. Kent State outscored the Seminoles in the paint, 40-36, but was lost the rebounding battle, 50-40. Graduate student Hannah Young had a team-high eight rebounds.
Freshman Corynne Hauser and sophomore Bridget Dunn provided solid production off the bench. Hauser scored seven points and led the Flashes with five assists and two steals in her collegiate debut. Dunn grabbed six boards in 13 minutes of action.
Scouting Northern Kentucky
The Norse were picked to finish fourth in the Horizon League preseason poll and opened the season with a 101-95 triple-overtime victory over Lipscomb on Thursday. After rallying from a seven-point deficit with under a minute remaining in the second overtime period, Northern Kentucky held the Bison scoreless in the final overtime.
All-Horizon League guard Lindsey Duvall scored 17 of her career-high 36 points from the free throw line and also led the Norse with 15 rebounds and six assists. Guard Khamari Mitchell-Steen matched her career-high with 23 points and pulled down nine boards. Guard Kailee Davis made all three of her shots from behind the three-point line and added 16 points. Forward Trinity Thompson provided an inside presence with 11 rebounds and three blocks to go with her seven points.
