
Flashes Drop Super Senior Night Match to Rockets

KENT, Ohio โ The Kent State volleyball team fell to Toledo, 3-1 (25-10, 23-25, 24-26, 19-25), on Super Senior Night Saturday evening at the M.A.C. Center.
The Golden Flashes (13-15, 4-13 MAC) got the night started with their largest set victory of the season but were unable to win critical points late in the next two sets, losing both by just two.
Senior Savannah Matthews and graduate student Alex Haffner posted double-doubles. Matthews led Kent State with 13 kills and 16 digs. Haffner totaled 35 assists and 10 digs while recording a season-high seven kills.
Freshman Mia Soerensen added 12 kills and junior Bryn Roberts contributed 11 digs.
How it Happenedโฆ
ย ย ย Set 1: A dominant opening set started with a kill by Savannah Matthews. Kent State led 5-0 before Toledo got on the board. It was 16-2 when the Rockets put together a mini three-point run. Ainsley Guse then entered and immediately delivered a kill, returning momentum to the Golden Flashes en route to a 25-10 victory. Kent State did not commit an attack error in the set and recorded kills on 12 of 23 swings for a .522 hitting percentage.
ย ย ย Set 2: Toledo scored four in a row for its largest lead of the set, 21-17, but the Flashes battled back to even it at 23-23. Toledo went back ahead with a kill for a quick sideout and Kent State was unable to find space inside the line on the next point to give the Rockets a 25-23 victory.
ย ย ย Set 3: A kill by Matthews tied it at 21-21 but Toledo took the next three points for a chance at set point. Back-to-back attack errors by the Rockets were followed with an ace by Kasidy Blumenthal to even it up. Toledo scored out of system on the two ensuing points to win 26-24.
ย ย ย Set 4: The teams split the first 20 points, but the Rockets won three of the next four to go ahead. Kent State was unable to get closer than two points the rest of the set and fell, 25-19.
Up Next for the Flashes
Kent State heads to Ohio for the season finale on Wednesday, Nov. 17. First serve from the Convocation Center is scheduled for 6 p.m.
