
Flashes Take Cardinals to School in Education Day Victory

KENT, Ohio — Kent State took care of business on Education Day presented by PSI, defeating Otterbein, 97-36, on Tuesday morning at the M.A.C. Center.
The Golden Flashes (7-3) had every player who played score and grab a rebound for the second game in a row. Freshman Corynne Hauser led all player with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Freshman Dionna Gray made both of her attempts from behind the three-point line and finished with career-high marks of 12 points and three steals. Graduate students Abby Ogle and Lindsey Thall added 12 points apiece, while senior Katie Shumate had 10.
The visiting Cardinals made two of their first three shots before missing 16 straight over the next 12-plus minutes as Kent State broke the contest open with a 30-0 run. Ogle provided a spark after entering with 5:12 remaining in the first quarter, including an offensive rebound and jumper that beat the buzzer, and totaled eight points, two steals and one blocked shot during the span.
Otterbein made four of its final six shots in the second period to trim the Flashes' lead to 45-20 at halftime.
The Flashes scored the first eight points during the third quarter and continued to build on the lead, taking a 68-29 advantage into the final period with the help of nine points in the period by Gray on 4-of-4 shooting.
Kent State continued to play engaged on the defensive side and held its guest to seven points on 2-of-16 shooting during the final period.
The Flashes also dominated on the glass and posted a 50-26 rebounding advantage. Graduate student Hannah Young led all players with seven rebounds and Shumate was right behind with six.
Kent State will resume its four-game homestand at the M.A.C. Center by hosting Coppin State on Saturday, Dec. 31. Tip is scheduled for 1 p.m.
