MOBILE, ALA.- The Golden Flashes closed the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate strong with the second-best team score of the day and four golfers shooting under-par.
As a team, the Flashes shot a four-under score of 284, tying Kansas State for the second-lowest round of the day. Chris Vandette (-3), Josh Gilkison (-2), Cade Breitenstine (-1) and Luca Civello (-1) all shot under par on the day.
"The team finally woke up with about nine holes left," head coach Jon Mills said. "We still have a lot of work to do before our next event, but it is encouraging that we closed strong. (Chris) Vandette continued his great play and I am very impressed with how he competed this week."
Vandette finished in sole possession of second place on the individual leaderboard. The junior led the field with 15 birdies over the three rounds and was amongst the leaders in both par-4 and par-5 scoring.
Luca Civello finished in 12th place at three-under and was the top individual finisher in the tournament. Civello did his damage on the par-4s, leading the field with a five-under performance on those holes. Josh Gilkison finished one under for the tournament and finished in a tie for 29th, giving the Flashes three golfers in the top-30 of a loaded field.
Breitenstine closed the week strong with his one-under performance on Wednesday and finished tied for 59th. Julien Paltrinieri and Bryce Reed both finished in a tie for 69th.
Kent State will take a week off before heading to Florida to compete in the Coral Creek Invitational hosted by Florida Gulf Coast. The opening rounds are Monday, February 28th.
