MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - On Saturday, the Kent State lacrosse team traveled to Milwaukee to take on Marquette. But the Golden Eagles got the better of the Golden Flashes, winning 20-5.
Marquette executed well in all phases of this game, but they played especially well on offense, wherein they scored the first seven goals to open the game. Shea Garcia scored six goals for the Eagles (the first six goals of the game), adding up to a total of 26 on the year. Kyra Lamotte scored four goals as well for Marquette, with the two players accouting for half of the Eagles' 20 goals in the game.
Meanwhile, the Flashes struggled to find their rhythm offensively, eventually getting five goals from five different players: Jackie Wolford, Abby Jones, Kiley Marconi, Madison Rapier, and Reagan Russell. These were the first goals of the season for Marconi and Russell.
The Flashes used three different goalies in this one, with starter Madison Flannigan being tagged with the loss. Taylor Monturo had five saves off the bench. For Marquette, Amanda Rumsey and Brynna Nixon split the goalkeeper duties, with Rumsey getting the victory.
In terms of team stats, Kent State had the same number of saves as Marquette. They also had more draw controls, 14-13. But the Eagles controlled most other categories.
Next up for the Flashes is a return to both home play and conference play, as they are set to take on Youngstown State at Dix Stadium on Thursday at 6 p.m.
