
Golden Flashes Draw YSU in Postseason WNIT Opener

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Kent State will remain in Northeast Ohio for the first round of the 2022 Postseason WNIT and will play at Youngstown State on Wednesday, March 16. The game time will tip at 5:30 p.m.
"I'm really excited for our program and our players to have the opportunity to continue our season in the WNIT," said head coach Todd Starkey. "This is our third WNIT bid in the past six years and it's a great opportunity for our players to continue to play in such a prestigious postseason tournament."
The Golden Flashes (18-11, 10-10 MAC) will be making their sixth WNIT appearance all-time. In 2019, Kent State earned its first WNIT victory over Green Bay before falling to Butler in the second round.
The Penguins (24-6, 18-4 Horizon League) are No. 24 in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 and earned a share of the Horizon League Tournament regular season title. Youngstown State was terrific at home during the regular season, posting a 14-3 record at the Beeghly Center.
The winner of the first-round contest will advance to play the winner of Toledo-Houston Baptist in the second round.
