
Kent State’s WNIT Run Ends in Second Round

TOLEDO, Ohio — Kent State dropped a Postseason WNIT second round contest at Toledo, 79-59, on Monday night inside Savage Arena.
The Golden Flashes (19-12) were led by senior Lindsey Thall, who finished with 11 points. Juniors Nila Blackford and Katie Shumate added 10 points each.
Shumate scored the game's first five points. After the Rockets got on the board, senior Mariah Modkins stretched the lead back to five with a pair of free throws. Toledo took its first lead, 11-9, at the 5:14 mark and held a 22-18 advantage at the end of the first period.
The teams traded baskets during the first four minutes of the second period, but the Rockets finished with a 14-3 run to take a 42-27 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Toledo scored the first seven points after the break to lead by 22, but the Flashes fought back to make it a 57-47 game after the end of the third quarter.
All-MAC First Team guard Quinesha Lockett scored the first eight points as part of the Rockets' 11-0 to open the fourth, and Kent State was unable to put together another comeback.
Freshman Jenna Batsch provided a spark off the bench for the second game in a row, scoring seven points in 13 minutes of action.
