
Flashes Set to Host Spring Extravaganza on Saturday

KENT, OHIO- The Kent State football and lacrosse teams are teaming up for a fun-filled Spring Extravaganza this Saturday at Dix Stadium.

The football team will be holding its annual spring game starting at 9:30 a.m. the lacrosse team will be honoring its 12-member senior class prior to their Mid-American Conference matchup with the Central Michigan Chippewas at 1 p.m.
Both events are free to the public. Local food trucks from Brooks Barbecue, Kona Ice and Southern Comfort Kitchen will be on hand as well and will have game day specials on sale. Fans can also pick up their 2022 football schedule poster as they walk into Dix Stadium.
The annual spring game showcases the football program's work over the spring practice season. Kent State is coming off a record-setting season and one that saw the program win its first Mid-American Conference East Division title since 2012. The Flashes bring back seven starters on an offense that shattered the record for total yards, posting 6,907 in 2021, nearly 1500 more yards than any other season. Kent State was extremely balanced as well, passing for 3,425 yards and rushing for 3,482. Both marks are also school records and placed Kent State in the top-five nationally in rushing for the second-straight season.
Defensively, the Golden Flashes will be under the tutelage of new defensive coordinator, Jeremiah Johnson. Johnson comes to Kent State after leading a Northern Iowa defense to top-20 marks in several seasons in the deepest conference in the FCS, the Missouri Valley. Johnson brought Keelon Brookins with him to Kent and will work with coach CJ Cox with the defensive backs.
At the conclusion of the spring game, the Golden Flashes will officially sign the newest member of the #FlashFAST family, Kingston. Â Kingston joins the football program through Kent State Athletics' partnership with Team IMPACT, a non-profit organization that matches children with serious and chronic illnesses and partners them will college athletic teams. Kent State football joins the field hockey, gymnastics, and men's basketball programs in the Kent State Team IMPACT partnership.
Kent State Lacrosse Senior Day
After the Kent State football spring game, the women's lacrosse team will host Central Michigan at Dix Stadium. The Golden Flashes will look to break the single season mark for wins and defeat the Chippewas for the first time in program history.
The Flashes are led by Jackie Wolford who has scored 35 goals this season, including 18 goals in her last five games. Kenzie Sklar is second on the team with 27 goals and leads the team with seven free-position goals.
Prior to opening draw, the Flashes will honor their senior class. All 12 seniors were members of the first ever Kent State women's lacrosse team and many hold places in the record books. Abby Jones is the program's all-time leading scorer with 103 career goals. She has 16 this season and is second on the team with 11 assists.
After the game, the Golden Flashes will do an autograph signing on the field. Posters are available for fans to pick up at the conclusion of the contest.
