
Three Flashes Named GCAA All-American Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. – Kent State University men's golfers Cade Breitenstine, Luca Civello and Josh Gilkison were among the student-athletes named to the 2021-22 Srixon/Cleveland Golf NCAA Division I All-American Scholars, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
Breitenstine competed in all 39 rounds for the Golden Flashes and posted an average score of 72.79. The All-MAC First Team selection finished in the top-10 twice with six additional finishes in the top-25. The junior shot 14 rounds of par or better and shot 67 in the final round of Purdue Fall Invitational to match his lowest 18-hole total as a collegian.
Civello had a 73.65 scoring average over 26 rounds. He recorded a pair of top-15 finishes and earned co-MAC Golfer of the Week honors after tying for third place at the Purdue Fall Invitational. Civello shot par or better in each round (72-71-70) to finish the tournament at 3-under.
A PING All-Midwest Region selection, Gilkison played in all 39 rounds and led Kent State with an average of 71.95. He posted four top-5 finishes and claimed individual medalist honors at the Mid-American Conference Championships after sinking a birdie putt on No. 18 and then winning a three-man playoff. Gilkison carded 24 rounds of par or better, including a career-best 64 to conclude the General Hackler Championship, which is tied for the fifth lowest round in program history.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically, compete in 50 percent of their team's rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 and maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
