
Volleyball to Battle for Northeast Ohio Bragging Rights

Kent State seeks to claim bragging rights as it closes the non-conference volleyball slate against a pair of local Horizon League schools.
The Golden Flashes (7-2) will host Cleveland State on Thursday at the M.A.C. Center and then make the short trip to Youngstown State on Friday. Both matches are scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Cleveland State
The Vikings (2-3) earned their second win of the season, 3-1, over Morgan State on Saturday. Cleveland State has been swept just once and is 1-3 in five-setters. The Vikings are 0-3 against MAC opponents, losing to Akron and twice to Buffalo.
Outside hitter Lauren Voss is averaging 3.41 kills per set, which ranks second in the Horizon League. Outside hitters Liberty Torres (2.09 kps) and Madison Quirino (2.00 kps) are additional attack options. Libero Audrey McConihe leads the defense with 4.31 digs per set.
Youngstown State
The Penguins (5-4) are coming a 2-1 week at Buffalo and need just one win to match last season's total. Youngstown State is 0-2 against MAC schools with losses to Buffalo and Central Michigan.
Outside hitter Paul Gurschiung has earned two Horizon League Player of the Week honors already this season and leads the conference with 4.77 points per set and 4.13 kills per set. Setter/right side Josi Borum adds 4.66 assists per set and 1.84 kills per set. Libero Isidora Sisic leads the Horizon League in aces per set (0.45) and averages a team-best 3.48 digs per set.
UP NEXT
Kent State will begin conference play at the M.A.C. Center next week against MAC East Division favorite Bowling Green. Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN3.
