Flashes Top Bobcats in Overtime, 4-3

ATHENS, Ohio – Freshman Patricia Strunk's second goal of the day in the seventh minute of overtime was the winner as the Kent State field hockey team defeated Ohio, 4-3, in a Mid-American Conference contest at Pruitt Field on Friday.
The Golden Flashes (5-4, 3-0 MAC) improve to 2-1 in overtime games this season and extended their winning streak against the Bobcats to 10.
Strunk's first goal put Kent State ahead 1-0 just 2:31 into the contest. The goal was setup by a pass from senior Sydney Washburn, who controlled a deflected ball in front of the cage. After receiving the pass, Strunk dribbled around the Ohio goalkeeper and fired it off the bottom board.
The Bobcats responded with a goal just two minutes later and added another in the opening minute of the second period to take a 2-1 advantage into halftime.
Kent State evened it midway through the third quarter when Agustina Florio converted a direct penalty corner opportunity with assists from freshman Maia Sarrabayrouse and senior Larissa Balachick.
Ohio went back ahead with a goal in the first minute of the fourth. Washburn tied it again with under five minutes remaining, batting down a deflected shot and sending it past the keeper.
Balachick setup the winning goal with a pass from near midfield to Strunk, who was streaking down the sideline behind the defense.
Kent State led 18-9 in shots and 13-5 in penalty corners. Sophomore Cecile van Eijck made two saves in cage.
The Golden Flashes will return to action on Sunday, visiting Ohio State for a 1 p.m. contest that will be streamed on BTN+.
