Flashes Return Home Saturday to Host Toledo

Kent State continues Mid-American Conference women's basketball action on Saturday, Jan. 14 against Toledo. The contest between top-15 teams in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the M.A.C. Center.
The Golden Flashes (10-4, 2-1 MAC) led for more than 31 minutes during Wednesday's game at Miami but left Millett Hall with an 84-76 loss in overtime. Three players โ freshman Corynne Hauser, graduate student Hannah Young and freshman Dionna Gray โ posted career scoring nights. Hauser led the way with 23 points while Young and Gray added 20 and 14 points, respectively. Playing in her Kent State record 125th game, Young also had a career-best five steals.
Kent State's defense has been among the best in the MAC this season. The Flashes rank second in goal percentage defense (.369) and fourth in scoring defense (60.1 ppg). Kent State is 10-0 when holding opponents to fewer than 70 points.
Forward Lindsey Thall is the top scorer at 11.2 points per game and has also totaled team-best marks of 24 three-pointers and 13 blocked shots. Thall is Kent State's all-time leader with 242 triples, which ranks 20th among active NCAA Division I players, and ranks 11th among active players in career blocks (185). Guard Katie Shumate is close behind at 10.8 points per game and pulls down a team-high 5.9 rebounds per contest. Guard Corynne Hauser (8.9 ppg) is averaging a team-best 11.3 points per game during conference play.
Guards Clare Kelly (6.5 ppg), Dionna Gray (5.4 ppg) and Abby Ogle (4.0 ppg) and forward Bridget Dunn (5.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg) lead a strong bench unit that is scoring 26.4 points per contest.
Scouting Toledo
The Rockets (11-3, 2-1 MAC) posted an 83-76 win over Ball State on Wednesday to bounce back from a disappointing setback at Northern Illinois in which they led by 17 entering the fourth quarter.
All-MAC guard Quinesha Lockett leads Toledo with an average of 15.6 points per game and totals of 15 three-point field goals and 17 steals. Guard Khera Goss (9.9 ppg), guard/forward Sammi Mikonowicz (9.6 ppg) and guard Sophia Wiard (9.1 ppg) are also consistent scoring threats for the Rockets. ย Wiard is averaging a MAC-best 4.6 assists per game, while Mikonowicz ranks fifth in rebounding (7.9 rpg).
