
Track and Field Earns Dual Sweep of Rival Zips

AKRON, Ohio – The Kent State track and field program posted a 2-0 record in a dual meet against rival Akron on Friday evening at Stile Athletics Field House.
The women's team earned victories in 10 of 14 events for a dominant 93-56 final score. The men's team split the 14 events and clinched the 76-73 win with an exciting finish in the 4x400 meter relay.
Matilde Carboncini led the way with 10 points by winning the women's 60-meter hurdles and long jump. Carboncini ran a time of 8.83 seconds in the hurdles and recorded a mark of 17'-9.75" in the long jump. Jayda Singleton added eight points for Kent State, finishing behind Carboncini for second in the long jump with a distance of 17'-7.75" and then leaping 38'-11" to win the triple jump. Lanee Hall placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 38', as the women's horizontal jumps accounted for two of the Flashes' 10 1-2 event finishes on the night.
On the women's side, it was Karsyn Spears (2:16.83) and Madi Mandelke (2:18.71) in the 800-meter run Leah Lisle (10:12.55) and Nina Zraik (10:21.52) in the 3,000-meter run, Svenia De Coninck (5'-6.26") and Lillie Franks (5'5") in the high jump, Aliesha Shaw (50'-2.5") and Meghan Daly (43'-3.25") in the shot put and Grace Luther (59'-6") and Briana Wright (53'-7") in the weight throw.
Kent State took the top two spots in three men's events. Asa Hodrick (21.24) and Jaheim Jones (21.37) led the way in the 200-meter dash, Alexander Shields (7.99) and Ayden Bath (8.13) in the 60-meter hurdles and Baidy Ba (4:07.90) and Ethan Yost (4:13.49) in the mile.
Additional Flashes who won events were Anna Jones (5:05.19) in the women's mile, Nolan Landis (55'-0.75") in the men's shot put, Alexandre Malanda (50'-0.75") in the men's triple jump, Dejon Manning (7.00) in the men's 60-meter dash and Leah Pasqualetti (12'-11.5") in the women's pole vault.
Kent State also won both 4x400 meter relay races. Manning, Jonathan Solomon, Korie Davis II and Quintin Cooks finished the men's race in 3:16.48, while Taylor Korytkowski, Ruby Greenwood, Mandelke and Alexandria Verbancic posted a time of 3:52.28 in the women's race.
The Golden Flashes will send student-athletes to both the Illini Challenge and Penn State National Open for competition on Jan. 27-28.
