
Strunk and van Eijck sweep MAC Player of the Week

CLEVELAND - The Kent State field hockey team swept the Mid-American Conference Players of the Week awards, the league announced this afternoon.
Sophomore Patricia Strunk was awarded MAC Offensive Player of the Week and junior Cecile van Eijck was awarded MAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Strunk led the Kent State on offense this past weekend, recording four points and two goals against Miami and Lock Haven while the Flashes went 2-0. On Friday, Strunk scored a penalty stroke goal to take the lead 1-0 against the RedHawks. The Flashes went on to defeat the first place RedHawks 2-1. On Sunday, Strunk buried a drag flick on a penalty corner against the Bald Eagles 3-1 victory.
Van Eijck led the Kent State defense this past weekend during two victories and allowing just two goals. Over two games, Van Eijck made 15 saves this weekend and recorded a .857 save percentage against Miami and Lock Haven. Against the first place RedHawks, she came up clutch several times in the cage including turning away nine Miami penalty corners that led to a Flashes 2-1 MAC victory. Van Eijck stopped nine shots on goal against Lock Haven on Sunday and secured the second home victory of the weekend for the Golden Flashes.
