
Volleyball Visits Bowling Green for Pair of Matches

The Kent State volleyball team will head back on the road this weekend for two Mid-American Conference matches against Bowling Green.
The Golden Flashes (5-15, 1-8 MAC) and Falcons are looking to start the second half of the conference schedule with wins to move up the standings. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.

PREVIEWING THE FLASHES
Kent State had a season-best .396 hitting percentage in a dominant 3-0 win against Miami last week but then fell 3-1 to the visiting RedHawks at the M.A.C. Center. Sophomore Mackenzie McGuire led the way with 5.14 kills per set while freshman Logan Henderson added 2.86 kills per set and a .372 hitting percentage. Libero Bryn Roberts averaged 5.29 digs per set and earned her second MAC East Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season.
Outside hitter Mackenzie McGuire is the MAC leader with 4.48 points per set and 4.15 kills per set. McGuire has posted at least nine kills in 16 of 17 matches played this season and surpassed 500 career kills against Western Michigan on Oct. 5. Setter Kendall White orchestrates the offense and averages 7.07 assists per set, which puts her ninth in the conference. White made totaled 11 kills against Miami in her first two starts of the season at right side.
Libero Bryn Roberts ranks fourth in the conference in digs per set (4.31) and sixth in aces per set (0.39). Roberts became the 15th member of Kent State's 1,000 digs club last Friday night and sits sixth all-time in digs per set (3.23).
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
The Falcons (9-11, 3-6 MAC) have won two straight, taking down Ohio (3-1) on Saturday and Miami (3-0) on Tuesday, to snap a six-match losing streak. Bowling Green posted a season-best .423 hitting percentage in the sweep of the RedHawks.
Opposite/setter Lauryn Hovey is the reigning MAC East Offensive Player of the Week and leads the Falcons with 3.27 kills per set and 31 service aces. Outside hitter Chelsea Williams adds 2.58 kills per set. Middle blockers Jessica Andrews (0.90 bps) and Alexis Mettille (0.88 bps) lead a front row that ranks third in the conference at 2.11 blocks per set.
SERIES HISTORY
Kent State is 24-62 all-time against Bowling Green and has lost six straight in the series. The Golden Flashes are just 1-10 at the Stroh Center, which opened in 2011.
UP NEXT
Kent State is scheduled to play its next six contests against MAC West opponents, beginning with road matches against Ball State on Oct. 27 and Toledo on Oct. 28.
