Flashes Can't Get Past Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Kent State women's soccer team fell to Ball State 3-1 in a rain-soaked contest on Thursday.

The Golden Flashes (6-4-2, 3-2-0 MAC) have now dropped two straight Mid-American Conference matchups while the Cardinals (5-5-2, 3-0-2 MAC) have yet to lose a game in MAC play or on their home turf so far this season.

The Cardinals scored a pair of goals in the first half to jump out to an early lead. The Flashes came out of the locker room with renewed life, keeping possession in their attacking half.

In the 66th minute, Alisa Arthur cut the lead in half with her fourth goal of the season. Arthur got the ball on the far side of field, juking out two Ball State defenders as she cut into the box and fired a shot that hit off the inside of the right post and into the back of the net.

Arthur leads the Flashes in goals and points (11) on the season and has scored at least a point in four of five MAC games.

The Flashes kept up the offensive aggression throughout the second half but could not find the tying goal. With just minutes left in the game, Ball State added another goal to put the comeback effort out of reach.

The Flashes trailed in terms of shots (10-14), shots on goal (4-9) and corner kick opportunities (2-5). Siena Stambolich (3) and Arthur (2) led Kent State in shots while Sarah Melén tallied 6 saves.

NEXT UP

The Flashes return home on Sunday to host Central Michigan at Zoeller Field at Dix Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Fans can take home baby blue Kent State bucket hats as part of the 2000s Night celebration.
