
Flashes fall in shootout to the Mountaineers

BOONE, N.C. - The Kent State field hockey team (3-8, 2-2 MAC) fell 2-1 to App State (8-4, 3-1 MAC) this afternoon in a shootout.
Five minutes into the first quarter, the Mountaineers scored early to take the lead 1-0. App State led in shots 3-2.
In the second quarter, the Flashes found their momentum when Patricia Strunk tied the game 1-1 after the start of the quarter. With two minutes remaining before the half, Kent State was awarded the first penalty corner of the game.
With the game still tied 1-1 at the end of the third quarter, App State led in shots 9-4 and corners tied at 1-1.
In a scoreless fourth quarter, the game went into overtime. After 10 minutes of back and forth play in overtime, the Flashes secured three corners and led in shots 5-1.
After the second overtime, neither teams were able to score in a close battle.
In the shootout, Patricia Strunk started for the Flashes and was able to secure a goal. The Mountaineers followed with a goal scored to make it 1-1. App State was able to score again for a 2-1 lead. Once again, the Mountaineers made another goal to make it 3-1. In the last shootout attempt, the score remained 3-1 and the final score resulted 2-1 in favor of App State.
