
Golden Flashes prepare for contests against App State and Ohio State

The Kent State field hockey team (3-7, 2-1 MAC) prepares for a pair of contests at App State on Friday, Oct. 6 at 3 p.m. and hosts No. 7 Ohio State on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m.
About the Flashes
After a 4-2 victory over Ball State on Saturday, the Flashes are now 2-1 in the Mid-American Conference. Iris Bekker scored her second penalty stroke goal in back-to-back games to give Kent State the lead, 3-2, late in the fourth. She is also tied for second in the MAC for defensive saves (2). Patricia Strunk scored her first goal on the season and is tied for second in the MAC for assists (4).
Scouting App State
The Mountaineers (7-4, 2-1 MAC) are currently on a two-game win streak with victories over Central Michigan and Lindenwood last week. Sarah Perkins and Florine Koopman are both tied for second in the MAC for assists (4). App State ranks No. 2 in the conference for shots (128) with Charlotte Bosma leading the team (19) and securing four goals.
Scouting No. 7 Ohio State
The Buckeyes (11-2, 4-1 BigTen) are ranked No. 2 nationally in goals per game (3.46). Makenna Webster is sixth in the NCAA for goals per game (2.62). She also leads Ohio State in goals (14) and points (34). The Buckeyes are second in the country with 3.46 goals per game.
The Series
The Flashes are 11-1 overall against App State with the last meeting being at the MAC semifinals in 2022. Kent State has outscored the Mountaineers 34-8.
Ohio State holds a 26-9 record over Kent State. In the last matchup, the Flashes fell 4-0 to the Buckeyes. Kent State won 3-1 in the last home contest at Murphy-Mellis field in 2021.
