Takagi and Nuchsila Finish Top Five, Kent State Places 2nd in Virginia Beach

Leon Takagi and Noramol Nuchsila starred this weekend at the Evie Odom Invitational, placing 3rd and 4th respectively.

The duo led Kent State to their best team finish of the year so far, taking 2nd among the 15 club field.

Takagi finished the final 18 holes with the best round in the entire tournament, shooting a four under par 66. The sophomore went on a stretch where she birdied five of six today, spanning from holes 5-10.

Nuchsila started off the tournament leading the pack for the Golden Flashes, shooting a three under score of 67 on the first day. The veteran followed that with two straight days at even par, finishing with a final total of 207.

"Leon played an incredible round under tough conditions and Pear (Nuchsila) had a solid tournament," said Head Coach Casey VanDamme.

Veronika Kedronova tied for 34th, as the first year has yet to finish outside of the top 40 in her first four tournaments.

As a team, Casey VanDamme's club led the tournament in Par's, knocking in 177 throughout the three days.

'We did a much better job of handling the controllable aspects in our games this week," said VanDamme. "We still have room for improvement but it is nice to see positive results."

Hester Sicking, Berta Sanchez, and Jennifer Gu also competed for the Golden Flashes.

Up Next:

The Golden Flashes will compete in their final tournament of the fall, heading to Knoxville, Tennessee to take part in the Mercedes Benz Invitational. Kent State finished 4th at the invite a season ago.
