
Flashes take on App State in MAC Tournament Semifinal

The Kent State field hockey team (7-10, 5-2 MAC) is set to compete against App State in the 2023 Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinals on Friday, Nov. 3 at 2:30 p.m. Top-seeded host Miami and fourth-seeded Ohio face off in the other semifinal on Friday at 11:30 a.m.
About the Flashes
The Golden Flashes secured the tournament's third seed after a 3-1 win against Longwood on Friday. Kent State then had its four-game win streak snapped on Sunday in a 3-2 overtime loss to Indiana.
Kent State is ranked No. 2 in the MAC for penalty corners (101) and fourth in save percentage (.725). Leading scorer for the Flashes, Eva Usoz, is ranked No. 5 in the MAC for goals (9) and tied for points (22). Usoz is also tied for second in game winning goals (3). Patricia Strunk scored in both game last weekend to earn her second MAC Offensive Player of the Week of the season.
Scouting App State
The Mountaineers (14-4, 6-1 MAC) clinched a share of the MAC regular season title after beating Ohio 3-2 in overtime. App State has won nine games in a row, including a victory against No. 8 Louisville.
Charlotte Bosma and Hadley Kuzmicky share the team lead with six goals each. Goalkeeper Addie Clark leads the MAC in save percentage (.787) and shutouts (4).
The Series
The Golden Flashes are 11-2 all-time against the Mountaineers, outscoring them 35-10. Both teams return after meeting in the 2022 MAC Tournament semifinal. App State scored late in the third quarter to win 1-0 and move onto the championship game.
This season, Kent State fell 2-1 in a shootout against App State in a regular season contest. Patricia Strunk tied it 1-1 in the 17th minute and neither team scored through double overtime. The Flashes led in shots on goal (10-7) and penalty corners (7-2).
Up Next
The winner of each semifinal game will battle for it all on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. The champion will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.
