KENT, Ohio – Graduate students Kiana Mack and Burgundy Walters recorded career-high kill totals as the Kent State volleyball team celebrated Senior Night on Saturday. Visiting Central Michigan left the M.A.C. Center with 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 19-25, 15-25) victory.
Mack led the Golden Flashes (6-20, 2-13 MAC) with 13 kills and posted a .346 hitting percentage while Walters added eight kills. The middle duo shared the team lead with five blocks each.
Senior Bryn Roberts was also a key contributor on defense and tallied a match-high 16 digs.
Sophomore Kendall White totaled 33 assists and spread the ball around, as Kent State had five players with at least eight kills. Sophomore Mackenzie McGuire and freshman Logan Henderson had nine kills each and senior Karina Salinas added eight.
How it Happened…
Set 1 (25-23): Kent State started strong and led 3-0 on kills by Mackenzie McGuire and Burgundy Walters, followed by a bad set by Central Michigan. The Chippewas took their first lead, 11-7, with a five-point run and eventually led by as many as five points before the Golden Flashes tied it with a 5-0 run. The teams battled back-and-forth until it was tied 23-23. Logan Henderson then put Kent State ahead with a blast from the middle and followed with a tip to win the set.
Set 2 (21-25): CMU scored five in a row to take a 20-14 lead, but Kent State fought back to get within 22-21. The Chippewas won the next three points to tie it up.
Set 3 (19-25): After CMU took its largest lead of the set, 17-11, Kiana Mack sparked a 3-0 run with a kill. Kendall White and Walters teamed for a block and Mack followed with an ace. The Flashes got within three again at 21-18, but the Chippewas took the next three points to pull away.
Set 4 (15-25): A pair of 5-0 runs helped CMU control the set and prevent the Flashes from extending it to the fifth.
