KENT- The Golden Flashes return home on Wednesday night, welcoming in the Bowling Green Falcons for some mid-week MACtion on CBS Sports Network and the Kent State Radio Network.
Wednesday marks the Battle for the Anniversary Award, the rivalry trophy between the two schools. Both Universities were founded in 1910 and in 1985 began playing for the rivalry trophy to celebrate the 75th anniversary of both schools. The trophy went missing for about 20 years only to resurface in 2017. The Flashes will look to continue its five-game win streak in the rivalry.
The Flashes are coming off a heartbreaking loss in the Wagon Wheel rivalry game last week, falling 31-27 at InfoCision Stadium. Tommy Ulatowski threw for three touchdowns and ran for a fourth in the setback. He became the first quarterback to account for four or more scores since Collin Schlee did it last year at Bowling Green.
The Kent State running game was on point with four backs rushing for 30 or more yards. Jaylen Thomas continues to lead the ground game and has averaged nearly 70 yards a contest in MAC play.
Bryce Sheppart continued his solid play in the Flashes' secondary, leading the Flashes in tackles last week and is averaging seven stops per contest.ย Kent State will have to deal with a stingy Bowling Green squad that has one of the MAC's leading rushers and the stoutest defense against the pass.
Terion Stewart is one of three backs in the MAC averaging over 100 yards per game in MAC play. Stewart is averaging 103 yards per game and over six yards a carry. He leads the nation in broken tackles and yards per carry after contact. He will face a Kent State defense that has averaged only 114 yards per game on the ground in MAC play, good for third in the league.
The Falcons' defense has feasted on turnovers, forcing 22 so far this season to lead all of the FBS. Bowling Green has forced 10 fumbles, leading the NCAA, and picked off 12 passes to rank fifth. Bowling Green has allowed the exact same yards rushing and passing in MAC play, allowing teams 148 yards in each and their 296 total yards ranks fourth in the MAC.
Wednesday will be the annual Prez D Freeze Out with giveaways throughout the game and President Diacon sitting with the band and the student section.
Pre-game on the Kent State Radio Network begins at 6:30 p.m. with Rob Polinsky and Tom Evans in the booth and Dane Richardson on the sidelines. Fans can also follow along on live stats and Kent St Football on social media. Kent State finishes up the road slate next weekend, traveling to Muncie for a date with Ball State on Saturday, November 18th. Kick time has not yet been announced.
