Myrtle Beach, SC... The Kent State men's golf team followed a strong start on Monday with an equally strong finish on Tuesday to close out this year's General Hackler Championship in a tie for fourth amidst the 14-team field.
"I'm thrilled with how our guys played," KSU head coach Jon Mills said. "We experienced some learning moments near the end of the tournament and those are tough holes but if we want to be a high-level team those are obstacles we need to overcome. With that said this was the kind of week we needed and this should help us in our confidence and in the rankings. Overall I was really happy."
Senior Cade Breitenstine led the flashes all week long, carding a 71 on Tuesday after a team-best 66 in the middle round on Monday to wrap up his week in a tie for eighth, splitting the four ranked individuals at this event.
As a team, the Flashes mark of 274 was the best among the field in the second round, and by the end of the event a trio of Flashes would finish in a tie for 25th, as Jordan Gilkison, Ben MacLean, and Bryce Reed all wrapped up the week right on par.
ETSU would claim the top spot in South Carolina this week, followed by the only two ranked teams at the event in #16 Virginia and #6 Auburn, with the Tigers eeking out Kent State by a single stroke.
The Flashes will be back in action on April 15th for the Boilermaker Invitational in West Lafayette, Indiana.
