KENT- The Golden Flashes wrap up a five-game road swing on Tuesday night for a non-conference tilt with the Indiana Hoosiers and a 6 p.m. first pitch from Bart Kaufman Field.
The Flashes are coming in off a hard-fought three game series with Central Michigan. The Flashes dropped a heartbreaker on Sunday, a 2-1 decision to the Chippewas and now sit at 16-7 overall and 4-2 in MAC play.
Aidan Longwell continues to lead the Flashes offense, hitting a team best .406 this season with a MAC-best 40 RBI. He hit safely in all three games over the weekend, giving him a 20-game hitting streak heading into Tuesday. Â Freshman Brody Williams had some timely hits against CMU over the weekend including a game-tying home run in Friday's extra inning win. He's got a modest six-game hitting streak rolling including three multi-hit games during that span.
Look for Kent State to throw a bevy of arms at the Hoosiers on Tuesday. The Kent State bullpen was solid against the Chippewas, tossing six-plus innings of shutout baseball in Friday's win and another three innings on Sunday.
Indiana comes into the contest at 17-7 overall and winners of eight straight, including a sweep of Ohio State over the weekend. The Hoosiers were picked to finish sixth in the Big 10 and are paced by a trio of pre-season all Big-10 players in catcher Matthew Ellis, infielder Phillip Glasser and outfielder Carter Mathison. Glasser is currently leading the club with a robust .432 batting average this season. He leads the club with 11 doubles and 10 steals as well. The Hoosiers as a club are hitting an even .300 and averaging a tick under eight runs a game.
The Hoosiers will also likely toss a number of pitchers on Tuesday as well. In last Tuesday's win over Indiana State, the Hoosiers used 12 pitchers, nobody throwing more than an inning in the 15-5 victory. As a staff, the Hoosiers have a team ERA of 4.67 with batters hitting .247 against them.
This will be the fifth all time meeting between the clubs with Indiana winning three of the first four. Kent State won the last matchup, a 9-8 victory in Bloomington back in 2019. Tuesday's matchup will stream on BTN +, the digital arm of the Big Ten Network. Those without a BTN+ subscription can also listen to the broadcast through IU-All Access and follow along on live stats. All links are available through the baseball schedule page. Kent State returns home for a big weekend series with the Toledo Rockets starting on Friday. First pitch from Schoonover is set for 6 p.m.
