Flashes Rally To Complete Sweep of Zips

KENT- Collin Mathews ripped a go-ahead single to left in the eighth and the Flashes completed a sweep of Akron with a 9-6 victory on Sunday afternoon at Schoonover Stadium.
It was a back-and-forth game all afternoon long. Kyle Jackson gave Kent State its first lead of the game with a two-run infield single that plated Mack Timbrook and Josh Johnson beat the throw home to make it a 3-1 Kent State lead.
Akron plated four in the third, rapping out four singles to grab a 5-3 lead. It stayed that way until the fifth when Mike McNamara tied it with his fifth homer of the season. Ian Pennington untied it in the seventh with a no-doubter to right, only to be answered by Aidan Longwell's emphatic blast in the bottom of the inning.
In the Kent State eighth, Josh Mrozek reaches on a two-out bunt single to get the rally started. Kyle Jackson walked and a stolen base and passed ball put both runners in scoring position. Mathews delivered with a two-strike, two-run single and crossed the plate one batter later on a Justin Miknis' single, giving Kent State a 9-6 lead.
Mitchell Scott made the lead hold up, recording his third save of the week and eighth of the season with a three-up, three-down ninth. Benny Roebuck got the win in relief and went to 4-1 on the season while Kent State improves to 25-10 overall and 12-3 in the MAC.
The Flashes will wrap the homestand on Wednesday, welcoming in the Tiffin Dragons. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
