KENT-The Golden Flashes open a big four-game home stand on Tuesday night, welcoming in the Ohio State Buckeyes to Schoonover Stadium for a 6 p.m. first pitch.
Kent State is coming off a 2-2 week that places the Flashes at 27-12 overall, 13-5 in MAC play, and an impressive 15-1 at Schoonover Stadium. Ohio State is 20-20 overall and 6-10 away from the friendly confines of Nick Swisher Field.
Michael McNamara helped lead the offense last week, enjoying a pair of two homer games, giving him a team best nine round trippers this year. He also moved into a tie for third on the team with 29 runs batted in, the Flashes have seven players with at least 23 RBI so far this season. Aidan Longwell continues his torrid RBI pace, adding four more in the four games last week and now has 56 RBI through 39 games this season.
The 20-20 Buckeyes come to Kent hitting .269 as a team. Tyler Pettorini leads the club with a .317 average, one of four regulars hitting .300 or better. Kade Kern leads the team with six homers as well as going 12-for-15 in stolen bases. On the mound, Ohio State pitches to a team ERA of 5.88. Jaylen Jones will get his third start of the season on Tuesday, he's 2-0 on the season with 21 strikeouts in 16 innings. However, the Buckeyes used eight different pitchers in the 7-6 win over Kent State in Columbus earlier this month, so expect a bevy of arms to come out of the Ohio State pen.
The Golden Flashes will be sporting the new "Tree City Black Squirrel" shirts during batting practice and pre-game warm-ups. It is a nod to the "City Connect" series in Major and Minor League Baseball. Kent SportsWear will be on hand to sell the shirts on Tuesday night.
Tuesday's game will be streamed on BoxCast free of charge with Dan Griffin and Tyler Henry on the call. Live stats will also be available on Tuesday night, links are available on the baseball schedule page. The Flashes continue the home stand this weekend in a pivotal conference series with Ohio University. First pitch on Friday night is set for 6 p.m.
