Complete Team Effort in 10-1 Saturday Win

BOWLING GREEN-Kent State cracked four homers, two in a four-run first inning in a 10-1 runaway victory over the host Bowling Green Falcons on Saturday afternoon.
Lefty Joe Whitman took it from there, as he tossed six innings of two-hit, one-run baseball. Jack Kartsonas and Ciaran Caughey threw three innings of scoreless relief in support of Whitman.
It was a balanced offensive effort on Saturday as every player who recorded an at-bat had at least one base hit and six knocked in at least one run. Kyle Jackson got things started with a homer to lead-off the game. After a Collin Mathews double, Aidan Longwell made it a 3-0 game with a two-run shot to right. Two batters later, Josh Johnson made it 4-0 with a double down the left field line.
Mathews kept the party going in the second, parking his sixth homer of the year to left to make it 5-0. It was one of three hits in the game for the center fielder and he drove in three on the day. Mack Timbrook added a two-run double in the fifth and Jake Casey hit his team-leading eighth homer in the seventh. Mathews added another run-scoring double in the eighth for good measure.
The win moves Kent State to 20-10 on the season and 8-3 in MAC play. Bowling Green drops to 11-16 on the season and 6-8 in conference. The Flashes will go for the sweep on Sunday with Eric Chalus likely getting the start. If the Flashes complete the sweep, it will also be career win 300 at Kent State for head coach Jeff Duncan. Sunday's game will have a 1 p.m. first pitch and will stream on ESPN +.
