Athens, GA… When the NCAA Women's Golf Championships begin this year, the Kent State women's golf team will be represented, as reigning MAC Freshman of the Year Leon Takagi secured the one and only individual ticket up for grabs at this year's Athens Regional.
The Tokyo native saved her best golf of the season for last, collecting an individual MAC championship two weeks ago, before shooting three strokes under par in Athens to finish the regional in a tie for fifth, ahead of all 23 others who would have been eligible for the honor.
As a team, the Flashes finished in a tie for tenth, falling behind late after a furious comeback effort that at one point saw them as high as fourth on the leaderboard.
Takagi was joined in the top 25 by Noramol Nuchsila, who finished her day with a 76, and finished her week in a tie for 24th.
The Freshman will return to action one final time at the NCAA Championships which will get underway in Scottsdale on May 19th.
