Scottsdale, ARI… After a phenomenal finish to her freshman campaign, Leon Takagi of the Kent State women's golf team will be headed to the valley to compete as an individual at this year's NCAA Championship.
The Tokyo native truly saved her best golf for last, rattling off back-to-back top 25 finishes to close out her regular season, before flying to the front of the pack and winning an individual title at this year's MAC Championship.
For her efforts, Takagi was named Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year, collecting All-MAC second team and All tournament honors in the process.
Despite these accomplishments the best was still yet to come for the freshman Flash, and earlier this may, Takagi once again found herself at the front of the pack, finishing three strokes under par and in a tie for fifth at the Athens Regional.
That finish was good enough to earn her the one and only individual ticket to Scottsdale among a field that saw 92 different golfers take to the links throughout the week.
"We are excited for this opportunity for Leon," KSU head coach Casey VanDamme said. "This course will be very demanding and the key to her success will lie in lag putting and hitting greens in regulation."
This year's NCAA championships will begin on Friday, May 19th, and live scoring throughout the event can be found on golfstat.com.
