
Lotarski Earns All-MAC Honors to Open MAC Women’s Outdoor T&F Championships

AKRON, Ohio – Angelina Lotarski placed second in the pole vault to lead the way for Kent State on Thursday as the 2023 Mid-American Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships started at the Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex.
The Golden Flashes totaled 14 points in the three scored events on the opening day of competition to sit fifth in the team standings.
Lotarski soared a season-best height of 12'-2" to secure eight points and earn All-MAC Second Team accolades.
Matilde Carboncini concluded a busy day with a fifth-place finish in the javelin throw, recording a personal-best mark of 124'-5" on her third attempt.
Carboncini totaled 3,056 points in the heptathlon and enters the second day of competition in fifth place but is just 44 out of third. She scored more than 800 in the first event and last event of the day, posting times of 14.66 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and 25.55 seconds in the 200-meter dash.
Svenia De Coninck ended the day eighth in the heptathlon with 2,925 points. De Coninck sat fourth in the standings following the first two events with strong performances in the 100m hurdles (15.29) and high jump (5'-6").
Kent State had two student-athletes advance in running prelims. Alexandria Verbancic ran a personal-best time of 1:00.40 in the 400-meter hurdles, which puts her eighth on the Flashes' all-time performance list. Anna Jones qualified in the 1500-meter run.
Friday's action begins with the hammer throw at 10 a.m. The heptathlon is slated to resume at 12 p.m. Running trials will continue at 4:10 p.m. with the 100-meter hurdles.
