
Kent State Women in Contention Heading into Championship Saturday at MAC Outdoor Track & Field Meet

AKRON, Ohio – Kent State totaled 29 points on Friday during the second day of competition at the 2023 Mid-American Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships to move into second place.
The Golden Flashes will enter the meet's final day with 41 points and just 2.5 points behind leader Miami.
Aliesha Shaw and Meghan Daly placed second and third, respectively, in the shot put for 14 points. Shaw earned All-MAC Second Team accolades with a mark of 49'-7", while Daly recorded a personal-best of 48'-4.75".
Kent State added eight points in the other throwing event of the day, the hammer throw. Briana Wright placed fourth with a heave of 176'-0" and Grace Luther recorded a throw of 174'-6" for sixth place.
Matilde Carboncini set a PR with 5,122 points in the heptathlon for fourth place. Carboncini closed the event with a personal-best 800-meter run time of 2:26.31 to secure the No. 4 spot on the Flashes' all-time performance list. Svenia De Coninck finished seventh with 4,766 points, just 10 short of her PR. De Coninck recorded new personal-bests in two of the day's three events with a throw of 90'-0" in the javelin and time of 2:26.11 in the 800m.
On the track, Karsyn Spears advanced to the finals in the 800m with a time of 2:12.49.
Action on Championship Saturday starts with the discus throw at 12:30 p.m. Running finals will begin with the 4x100 relay at 1 p.m. and conclude at 4:40 p.m. with the 4x400 relay.
