Flashes and Zips to Face-Off on Tuesday at Canal Park

KENT-The Golden Flashes will head to Canal Park, home of the Akron Rubber Ducks on Tuesday for a non-conference Wagon Wheel rivalry game with the Akron Zips.
What was once known as the Diamond Classic at Canal Park returns to the AA stadium for the first time since 2015. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. Kent State is 8-2 all-time against Akron at Canal Park.
The Zips come into the game at 18-27 overall, picking up a 10-2 win in the series finale against Miami. Jack Firestone continues to lead the offense, slugging 15 homers and driving in a team best 36 runs. As a team, Akron is hitting .244 and sit fifth in the MAC with 78 stolen bases. On the mound, Akron's 7.66 team ERA is eighth in the conference.
Kent State sits at 34-13 overall on the year and closed out the regular-season portion of the home schedule with a sweep of Western Michigan. The Flashes outscored WMU 28-6 in the three games and now average nearly 8.5 runs per game. Kent State also reached the 100 stolen base milestone for the first time since 2001 over the weekend, four Golden Flashes have at least 12 steals this season.
On the mound, the Flashes' starting staff allowed only one earned run over 16 innings against the Broncos. Kent State's team ERA is now 3.98, tops in the MAC.
