
Golden Flashes Return for Home Opener this Weekend

The Kent State field hockey team (0-2) is back at Murphy-Mellis Field for the 2023 home opener against Michigan State on Friday, Sept. 1 at 3 p.m. The Flashes then take on UC Davis on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 12 p.m.
About the Flashes
In the season opener against No. 14 Liberty last week, Kent State fell 2-0. In the second quarter, the Flames were awarded a penalty stroke after a corner. Goalkeeper Cecile van Eijck dove to make the save and keep the score 1-0 at the half. The Flashes also fell in a close match up against VCU, 1-0, despite outshooting (8-7) and having the lead in corners (7-3). Freshman Eva Usoz currently leads the team in shots on goal with four.
Scouting Michigan State
The Spartans (1-1) won their season opener 3-1 against Boston on Friday with Emma O'Neill securing a hat trick. In spite of Michigan State leading 24-18 in shots and 13-5 in corners against New Hampshire, the Spartans fell 4-0.
Scouting UC Davis
The Aggies (0-3) were outscored 10-1 in games against No. 16 Rutgers, Miami, and No. 3 Maryland. Audrey Lee scored the only goal against the Redhawks.
The Series
The Spartans lead 26-8-2 against the Flashes. Kent State has won seven out of the nine times Michigan State has traveled to Kent.
UC Davis and the Golden Flashes will face off for the first time on Sunday.

Kent State travels to Pennsylvania for contests against Penn State on Friday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. and Bucknell on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 3 p.m.
