ABOUT THE MATCHUP
Following a bye week, year two of the #KentGRIT era under the direction of head coach Kenni Burns resumes Saturday against Ball State. The KSU offense showed great improvement in its last time out, in a 52-33 loss to Eastern Michigan on Sept. 28.
The 33 points scored are the most against a FBS opponent since Nov. 11, 2022, as Kent State found the end zone in all four quarters for the first time during the #KentGRIT era. Quarterback Tommy Ulatowski had a career performance in his first start of season with 345 yards and three touchdowns through the air and another score on the ground. His 345 yards are the most by a Flashes QB since Oct. 1, 2022, and the most by any MAC player this season against a FBS opponent. Wide receiver Chrishon McCray was the favorite target, hauling in five passes for a career-high 188 yards and two scores. This was the best single-game performance by a Kent State player since Dante Cephas' program record 246 yards against Ohio on Oct. 1, 2022. McCray displayed why he's earned the nickname of "Big Play McCray" with touchdowns from 65 and 68 yards out.
Linebacker Rocco Nicholl is having a breakout junior campaign and leads the team with 45 tackles. Nicholl is tied for fourth in the MAC in total tackles (45) and 23rd nationally in tackles per game (9.0).
Saturday's game will air on ESPN+ as well as the Kent State Radio Network. Rob Polinsky and Tom Evans will have the call starting at 11:30 a.m. Dane Richardson will be pacing the sideline for in-game updates.
