
Flashes Finish Strong at Blessings Collegiate

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Kent State men's and women's golf teams each concluded their third tournament of the season on Wednesday with the third and final round of the Blessings Collegiate Invitational contested at Blessings Golf Club. The men's team recorded a 14-over-par third-round score of 302 to finish at 45-over-par and in seventh place of the ten teams competing. The women posted a 24-over-par 312 to finish the competition at 56-over-par and tied for sixth place.
A consistent highlight throughout the week for the Flashes' men was the play of Jordan Gilkison. After a stellar round of 3-under-par in round two yesterday, the senior concluded his week with a 2-over-par 74 to finish the competition at 1-under-par and in fourth place among the 54 individuals competing. Gilkison was one of just four men's players to record a 54-hole score under par.
Competing in the Flashes' lineup for the first time in his career, Nolan Haynes posted the second-best 54-hole score among the Kent State men. The freshman fired a 3-over-par 75 in round three to conclude the tournament at 9-over-par and tied for 21st place.
The final two third-round countable scores for the Kent State men's team were recorded by Isaiah Ibit and Bryce Reed, who each ended round three with 5-over-par 77s. Beyond posting matching scores today, the pair had identical 54-hole scores across the competition, both finishing at 19-over-par and tied for 42nd place.
The men's Blessings Collegiate team championship was claimed by LSU, who ended the competition as the only team below par at 2-under-par and 16 strokes ahead of runners-up Mississippi State.
The Flashes' women were led over the course of the week by Isabella Goyette. The freshman fired a 6-over-par 78 in round three to conclude the competition at 10-over-par and tied for 15th place among the field of 54, the first top-15 finish of her collegiate career in just her third tournament.
Aryn Matthews posted her best round of the week on Wednesday with a 2-over-par 74, helping her climb the individual leaderboard to a tie for 32nd place at 19-over-par. After firing a 2-over-par 74 herself yesterday, Veronika Kedronova wrapped up her tournament with an 8-over-par 80 in round three to end the contest at 14-over-par and tied for 25th. The final third-round countable score toward the Flashes' total was posted by Gracie Larsen, who recorded an 8-over-par 80 to end her week at 21-over-par and tied for 39th place.
A dominant performance from the Arkansas women saw them take the women's team title on their home course. The Razorbacks posted a 12-under-par team score to finish 33 strokes ahead of second-placed Mississippi State.
The Kent State men will return to action on Sunday, October 6, at the Fighting Irish Collegiate. The Flashes' women compete next at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational, set to begin on Monday, October 7.
