
Gilkison Leads Flashes to Ninth Place Finish at Fighting Irish Classic

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Kent State men's golf team concluded their fourth tournament of the Fall on Monday with round three of the Fighting Irish Classic at Warren Golf Course. The Flashes posted a 5-over-par 285 in round three to conclude the event at 25-over-par and in ninth place among the 15 teams competing.
Jordan Gilkison concluded the competition with his third top-ten finish of the season in just four appearances. The senior fired a final round 1-under-par 69 to conclude the tournament at 1-under-par overall and tied for seventh place among the field of 84. Gilkison fired back-to-back rounds in the 60s in rounds two and three to lead the Flashes.
Nolan Haynes wrapped up a consistent performance with a third-round 2-over-par 72. After recording an impressive top-20 finish in his first team appearance at last week's Blessings Collegiate, the freshman concluded the Fighting Irish Classic at 7-over-par and tied for 28th place, the second-best finish by a Flash.
After a strong opening two rounds yesterday, Edvin Backstrom rounded out his tournament with a 5-over-par 75 on Monday. The senior, making his first appearance in the Flashes' lineup this season, concluded the Fighting Irish Classic tied for 43rd place at 9-over-par.
The other third-round score countable toward the team total on Monday was recorded by Isaiah Ibit. After bogey troubles in round one on Sunday, the freshman responded well with a 2-over-par 72 in round two before firing a 1-under-par 69 in today's third and final round, his fourth round in the 60s this season, to finish the event tied for 64th place.
Host school Notre Dame claimed the top spot of the Fighting Irish Classic, posting a team score of 5-under-par, eleven strokes ahead of runner-up Purdue.
The Flashes will return to action on Monday, October 14, as they host the Golden Flash Individual at the Country Club of Hudson.
