CLEVELAND – For the third time in her career, Alyssa Guns has been named the Mid-American Conference Specialist of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Guns won a pair of events to lead Kent State to a 196.925 team total on Sunday against Northern Illinois, the third-highest score in program history. The junior earned a career-high 9.925 on beam to tie for the event crown. She also tied with two other Golden Flashes, Karlie Franz and Dani Fuertez, to win on floor with another 9.925.Â
Guns has scored 9.9+ on floor three times this season and leads the MAC with a 9.890 average in the event. On beam, the Michigan native has scored 9.8+ in back-to-back meets.
This marks the first time a Kent State gymnast has earned weekly awards from the conference so far this season.
The Flashes are back in action on Friday, Feb. 16, at the George Washington Quint Meet. Kent State will face off against the host Revolutionaries along with New Hampshire, Towson, and William & Mary at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
