
Studer’s Pole Vault PR Leads Flashes at Al Campbell Invitational

AKRON, Ohio – Freshman Layne Studer cleared 17'-5.5" for a new personal-best in the men's pole vault competition as Kent State competed at the Al Campbell Invitational on Friday.
Studer set a PR for the third week in a row, this time vaulting all the way to the No. 3 spot on the Golden Flashes' all-time indoor performance list and placed third in a loaded field that had five competitors clear 17'. Kristian Kneffler, who broke the school record two weeks ago, tied for fourth with a height of 17'-1.5".
Kent State student-athletes won seven events at the meet, including two who set new PRs in the process. Trey Double won the men's mile in 4:09.92, while Gabrielle Hammonds took the women's 60-meter hurdles in 8.69 seconds. Andrea Filote clocked a PR of 8.73 seconds for the fastest prelims time and placed third in the finals in 8.77 seconds.
Ella McCollom and Zamen Siyoum were also victorious in running events. McCollom ran a time of 10:41.18 in the women's 3,000-meter run and Siyoum clocked in at 8.22 seconds in the men's 60-meter hurdles.
The Flashes took first and third in both high jump events. Liam Vinskovich cleared 7'-0.25" to win the men's competition and Riley Murphy finished third with a mark of 6'-4.75". On the women's side, Sydney Logar and Angela Carter both cleared 5'-3". Logar placed first via tiebreaker rules.
Gabby Bailey won the women's shot put with a season-best throw of 51'-10.5". Aliesha Shaw was the runner-up with a mark of 48'.
Kent State will head travel to Ypsilanti, Michigan next weekend for the 2024 Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 23-24.
