KENT- The Golden Flashes wrap up a five-game home stand on Tuesday afternoon, welcoming in Northeast Ohio rival Youngstown State for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
Kent State is coming off a three-game sweep of Central Michigan to start conference play. The Flashes pitching was on point all weekend, allowing six runs across the three games, only three of them being earned. The Flashes are 4-0 on the opening home stand, running their regular-season home winning streak to 18 straight dating back to last season.
Josh Johnson led the offense during a 4-0 week, hitting .571 over the course of the week, raising his average to .333 on the season. The grad student has a nine-game hitting streak heading into Tuesday. Tim Orr continued his torrid start to the year, he hit .417 last week and it lowered his average to a team best .431.
Youngstown is looking for its first win of the year, coming into Tuesday at 0-14. They are coming off a sweep at the hands of Georgia Tech. Derrick Tarpley Jr. leads the offense, hitting. 320 on the season and leading the team in extra-base hits. Pitching has been a struggle, as the Penguins have pitched to a 14.27 team earned run average.
Tuesday's match up will be the 96th meeting all-time between the schools. The Flashes have won 72 times including 22-1 last season at Schoonover Stadium. Tuesday's game will stream live via Box Cast and live stats will be provided. Both links are available on the baseball schedule page.
The Flashes head to Athens this weekend to take on the Ohio Bobcats in the first road trip of the MAC season. First pitch on Friday is set for 4 p.m.
